Actress Jennifer Lawrence has finally taken the plunge and officially joined Instagram, but with one big condition.
The Hollywood star’s account titled @jlaw has already amassed more than 2.6 million followers since it first went live on Wednesday.
But in her first post and accompanying story, Lawrence warned any negative comments posted on her Instagram will result in her swiftly shutting down the account.

“Please be mindful that any mean or aggressive comments can negatively affect the baby,” Lawrence said.
For her first post, the Hunger Games star shared a video reiterating the warning.
“So yeah, I am giving it a shot and if anyone says anything negative I will quit immediately, no questions asked,” Lawrence said in the video.
“If anyone thinks something mean, I will know and I will quit.”
Lawrence has taken the handle @jlaw, joking in her bio that “jenniferlawrence was taken”.
She follows 46 accounts, including Miss Piggy, her Hunger Games co-star Josh Hutcherson, all the Kardashian-Jenners (except Rob Kardashian), Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese.
The Oscar-winning actress has spoken in the past about her decision to stay off social media, despite becoming one of the biggest names in Hollywood.
Before opening her official Instagram account, Lawrence in 2018 admitted to InStyle she had been using a secret profile online.
“I’m on it, but I’m a voyeur. I watch, I don’t speak,” Lawrence said.
“There is always so much backlash. So many people are listening and paying attention, and they have so many opinions about absolutely everything.
“I really don’t want to welcome that unless it’s absolutely necessary. I don’t want to put myself out there for no reason.
“Unless I’m promoting something or something really burns my onions, you won’t hear from me.”
Multiple celebrities shared their excitement at seeing Lawrence on social media and urged people to follow her rules.
“Everyone be f****** cool! Pls!” former Selling Sunset star Chrishell Stause said.
“I feel like you’ve been dying to do this for years and your publicist has finally given you the green light,” Home And Away star Maddison Brown commented.
“This is the best day of my life,” Stranger Things actor Noah Schnapp wrote.

Oscar-winning actor George Clooney has been asked repeatedly why he doesn’t post online.
“I don’t think you can be a star and be that available,” he told The Washington Post in 2022, while confessing he’d be worried about getting into trouble based on what he might post “if I have three drinks at night”.
Despite feeling pressure to join Instagram to promote her upcoming projects, actress Scarlett Johansson said she cannot bring herself to do it.
“I got close enough to talk to my therapist about it,” the Avengers star told InStyle in 2025.
“I was like, ‘I guess this is something I need to do. But it goes against my core values. Is there a way I could do this and stay true to who I am?’ It didn’t feel like I could.”
British actress Keira Knightley, comedian and actor Eddie Murphy, Hollywood actor Brad Pitt and Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe are all celebrities who also don’t have social media accounts.
Friends star Jennifer Aniston openly expressed an aversion to social media, stating the idea of posting stressed her out. She also previously criticised the impact it had on younger generations.
However, in October 2019, Aniston made the decision to join Instagram so she could publicise her haircare brand LolaVie.
“It’s torture for me. The reason I went on Instagram was to launch this line,” Aniston told Allure in 2022.
“Then the pandemic hit and we didn’t launch. So I was just stuck with being on Instagram. It doesn’t come naturally.”
According to ABC News in the US, one day after launching her Instagram account, Aniston had more than 10 million followers.
Aniston’s first photo (a group shot with her Friends co-stars) temporarily crashed the platform and picked up a million followers in just 5 hours and 16 minutes, setting a Guinness World Record.
